Billing customers ahead of time.

Could someone give me a clue as to how to do this if possible,

I would like to generate Invoices / Bill customers ahead of time for
their next month of usage, not the month that has already passed.

e.g. Customer signs up on 09/01/02 - pays $n for 09/01/02  - 10/01/02
next bill cycle (which runs on 10/01/02) I would like to invoice the
customer for 10/01/02 through 11/01/02.

Currently the invoice for customer will not generate until its 10/01/02
and when it does it will bill for 09/01/02 through 10/01/02.

Please clue me in. :-).
