DBD problems

Geday folks, 

having difficulty with the filename containing the three lines 
for the dbd connection
when file runs thusly:

DBI:mysql:freeside
freeside
password

I get:
Illegal line in /usr/local/etc/freeside//freeside: DBI:Mysql:freeside freeside password

If I throw it all on one line like so it seems to parse,
DBI:mysql:freeside freeside password

But I recieve:

Can't locate object method "default_user" via package "DBI::dr" at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i586-linux-thread/DBI.pm line 377. 

What am I missing??
