I think the vmware image has the FS specific repos for some perl modules
tool.

cat /etc/apt/sources.list{,.d/*}

Most of these are built by hand with dh-make-perl, but I'd suggest avoiding
that unless there is no other alternative.  This becomes less of a FS issue,
and more a distro/user-space/os issue.

There's always consulting.  I use to offer this, but I'm plenty paid and
busy these days.
