Passwords over 12 chars

Hi, 
    Is there a some reason why any password that I type into freeside over 12 chars is put into the sqlradius database and Crypt-Password?

I have a customer who dials in useing  the password countrybumpkin. Now that I have switched over to freeside this password is exported and a Crypy-Password. If I make it 12 or less it is put in as password.

Is this suppose to be like this? Can it be stoped?
