Email invoices for other than billing type?

I can not seem to have invoices emailed to clients that have the billing type other than "billing"??

Is this normal?

As it would be nice to have a PAP or CC type billing  confirmation/invoice sent via email  also

As it stands for me I could only get email invoices working if I choose the billing type Billing..
